Dear Members,

Whilst a number of our planned ADIESA events have been cancelled in line with COVID-19 physical restrictions, rest assured your Board continues to work hard with Defence in the background on alternative options.

In more immediate news, ADIESA has been invited by Ivan Zlabur, First Assistant Secretary Joint Systems, CASG, to work collaboratively with his special taskforce to precisely define Industry as a FIC. Your input will be integral in this important piece of work, and I encourage you to get involved. Further updates will be listed on our website and via email next week.

Enjoy the break wherever you may be. On behalf of your Board, I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a safe and happy ‘staycation’ this Easter.

Stay safe,

Kylah #Stayathome #ADIESA #easter2020

Defence Watch – Meet the Chiefs Industry Briefing – 2 March 2020

Since the Defence Efficiency Review and the introduction of the Defence Reform Program in 1997, the Australian Department of Defence has undergone major restructure.  Indeed the Department is continuing to refine the organisation. C3I has been conducting Defence Watch briefings since 1997 to assist the Defence Industry to better understand these changes and how they affect the way they conduct their business with Defence.

Here are the presentations from this weeks industry briefing, attended by members of the ADIESA Board.

Dr Dale Lambert

MAJGEN Marcus Thompson

The third speaker, Scott MacLeod First Assistant Director-General Protect, Assure and Enable, ACSC forewarned the audience of the announcement to be made later that afternoon.

Defence & Industry Study Course

Applications are now open for the 2020 Defence and Industry Study Course (DISC).  DISC is a Department of Defence program managed by Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group.

The current Defence & Industry Study Course (DISC) evolved from the Industrial Mobilisation Course which commenced in 1954 as an outcome from post-war reviews identifying the deep divides and lack of knowledge between the public and private sectors involved in national security. The primary aim has been, and remains, to promote a better understanding and engagement of both Defence and industry in order to improve Australia’s Defence industry capability and thus national security.

Applications for the Defence and Industry Study Course (DISC) close February 28, 2020. Further course and enrolment information are available here.

The Cyber Defence Summit

What a wonderful day was had by all who attended the inaugural Cyber Defence Summit last week. Thank you to all our members and guests for actively contributing throughout the day. The willingness to collaborate was evident. Looking forward to keeping the conversations going through dedicated bimonthly focus groups before another all day event in 2020 !

What attendees had to say…

“It was certainly a great day, with great conversation from government and industry to solve some complex problems..Keep up the brilliant work !”

It was a real pleasure to be part of a genuinely collaborative conversation, around what is a critically important endeavour. Well done all !”

The conversations continued over dinner at Pialligo Estate

The Cyber Defence Summit – An ADF/Industry/Academia event – 31 October, 2019

Invitations to the Defence Cyber Summit went out to all current members last week. Registrations for the Summit and the dinner event following close October 15, 2019

From IWD:

‘Cyberspace is challenging our concepts of how we will fight future conflict.

We are only just coming to terms what it means for the Australian Defence Force. From the conduct of offensive cyber operations in a new warfighting domain, to the impact cyberspace has on the traditional physical warfighting domains, much less the impact of cyber security to our mission systems, platforms and operating technologies. The challenges we face are significant – from supply chain risk management, to growing a cyber-smart workforce.

This Cyber Defence Summit with Industry and Academia aims to bring together a collective brains-trust to workshop the future, and examine the problems we face. This is not a Defence project update. This is a chance to be part of what is intended will become an annual event to tackle how Defence deals with Cyber, and anticipate emerging threats and opportunities.’
